Ushaka calling

This is beachwear....southern style ...in winters (8-10 degrees)....the waters of the milky Indian ocean were chilly no doubt! The restaurant at the end of the pier is a popular one for drinks and sea food.

Aloe vera in blossom! South Africa is famous for these and I was happy to recall that these hardy plants which seem to thrive in my beloved sister 's houses in such vibrant splendour!

Cultural performance at Ushaka ...all hail King Shaka!
Ushaka is located at one end of the golden mile and doubles up as beach, water sports, aquarium, mini gift and curio village where you can see and hear the sights of the proud and turbulent history of South Africa. It is quite safe and friendly set up. I met a lady selling MTR masalas and Cardamom tea in her store (she promised us it was Indian style and made us eat it with a samosa - delicious!). Also ran into a gentleman selling curios but he was from Aamchi Mumbai and setting up business in Durbz!

Beware all ye who enter....This part of the Ushaka set up is like Dilli Haat in Delhi or Swabhoomi in Kolkata. Curios are a tad over priced here so make sure you get a decent price.

The merry wart hog family smartly turned out for a leisurely stroll.

In Africa, music can never be far .....these soulful musicians held us mesmerized with their catchy music, infectious energy and lively performance.

This chappie happily wanted to prove that men can multi-task too!!!

Eating joints are quite a few. You'll get the best seafood in Durban and for an Indian, you'll never feel away from home as the culinary tastes are quite flavourful and similar. Moyo is one of the more popular places to hang out.

Yours truly signing off!

The golden mile - Durban

One of the most glorious views in the southern hemisphere!

Walk, jog or just soak up the sun along the sandy beaches in Durban. The below shots were taken on a particularly chilly day in July....brrrr!

Contrary to what I was told about safety on the beach, I met some of the warmest and friendly people sauntering around.
